Scale Control & Scale Management

What are Scale Deposits?

Scale deposits typically form in the presence of hard water (water that contains dissolved compounds of calcium and magnesium as well as other metallic elements).

How are Scale Deposits Formed?

Scale deposits form when there is precipitation and crystal growth at a surface that contains water. When solubilities exceed either in bulk water or at the surface, precipitation occurs. Scaling can be related to temperature, but this is not always the case. For instance, calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate scaling occur on unheated surfaces. Scale control is necessary especially in the preservation of industrial chemical equipment. Scale control can be achieved through a maintenance program to remove scale as needed, or removing the scale and then preventing the scale thereafter by dosing products such as Scale Remover STSR for both removal and prevention.

What is scale control & scale management?

Scale control is another way of saying scale management, which may need to occur through scale descaling or scale prevention in various industrial plants, WWTPs, operations, or equipment due to hard water or other process factors. Scale can be removed through mechanical means, which can include pigging, grinding or hydrojetting, or chemical cleaning processes.

Depending on the type of scale buildup, and where it’s forming, the industrial chemical scale control Scale Remover STSR can be diluted as needed, and applied through:

  • Recirculations
  • Soaks
  • Low-Pressure Sprays
  • Foaming
  • Dosing for prevention

What is the Scale Remover STSR?

The Scale Remover STSR industrial descaler is non-corrosive and removes struvite, vivianite, limescale, calcium carbonate, rust, and other types of scale without brushing or scrubbing. Compared to harsh chemicals, this safe and cost-effective product won’t damage your equipment while still effectively controlling scale buildup.

Scale Remover STSR:

  • Environmentally friendly and biodegradable
  • Non-corrosive to steel and skin
  • Safe to handle
  • Easy to use, with many applications, including foaming and low-pressure spray as well as soaks and recirculation
  • Cost-effective, saving you time, money, and leaving your operation free of scale

How a Descaler Controls & Manages Scale

A scale control descaler is a solution used to remove scale/scale deposits from a surface. This scale consists of mineral deposits accumulated over time on surfaces, typically on machinery or appliances of some sort. Scale Remover STSR can be used for scale control, to remove scale as needed, or be dosed for scale prevention.

Benefits of Scale Control and Scale Management

Recurring industrial scale control will allow the equipment, appliances, and machinery to perform at an optimal level and will prolong their life of functioning. Without the use of an industrial chemical for scale control, descaler, or preventer to remove and prevent the buildup of scale deposits, the temperatures of machinery and equipment can be affected and possibly lead to increased energy use and therefore increased costs. When industrial equipment has a controlled scale, this system is more efficient and will save money for the owner due to lower energy consumption making it a more valuable piece of equipment.

  • Improvement of flow
  • Removal of contaminants
  • Prevention of future scale build-up
  • Reduction of future maintenance
  • Improvement of efficiency of machinery and equipment
  • Lower operating costs
  • Prolonged life of machinery and equipment

Other Forms of Scale Control & Management and Their Downfalls

There are two commonly used processes to remove & manage scale: replacing equipment and using hydrochloric acid to remove scale. These two options come with high costs, though, that our products / methods do not come with.

Costs Associated with Removing Equipment to Manage Scale

  • Unnecessary downtime
  • Labor intensive (high costs) -- some estimated this to be a minimum of $200 for every foot of piping while excluding many factors into the equation
  • If any scale remains, it will grow back & accumulate much faster than before

Costs Associated with Using Hydrochloric Acid to Manage Scale

  • Highly corrosive
  • Highly hazardous
  • Leads to damage equipment that will need to be replaced
  • Expensive

Scale Remover STSR Forms of Use as Scale Control:

  • Industrial Rust Remover
  • Limescale and Calcium Remover
  • Heat Exchanger Descaler
  • Cooling Tower Descaler
  • Condenser Descaler
  • Data Center Descaler
  • Green Liquior Descaler
  • Vacuum Pump Descaler

Surfaces that a descaler can be used on:

  • Glass
  • Iron
  • Fiber
  • Steel
  • Plastic
  • Rubber
  • etc.

Scale control descalers can control the buildup of scale deposits by removing limescale, calcium rust, struvite, and vivianite, on industrial equipment, machinery, and other surfaces. Controlling this scale buildup is essential for long-term scale prevention on equipment.
